The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) dismisses terrorism allegations made against Senator Shehu Buba, the lawmaker representing Bauchi South. In a statement issued on Friday, the party calls on anyone with proof to present it to the appropriate authorities rather than circulate claims publicly.
PRP’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, argues that the allegations are part of a coordinated campaign intended to damage Buba’s reputation. The party says it is “convinced” rivals and detractors feel threatened and therefore resort to what it describes as falsehoods and libel. Nigerian Eye also cites the party’s reference to Section 127(c) of Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which penalises the publication of false statements intended to harm a candidate’s electoral prospects. The outlets add that Buba previously denied new allegations linking him to banditry, calling viral videos and social media claims disinformation and character assassination.
