Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who serves as chancellor of state universities, issues a direction to make uniforms mandatory for students across universities and colleges in the state. The order is described as applying to government and aided colleges affiliated with Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia, following discussions at Jan Bhavan. Financial minister Suresh Kumar Khanna welcomes the move, saying it is intended to promote discipline and remains in the interest of students. Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay says the uniform dress code is meant to foster equality, discipline, and social harmony.

Along with the uniform mandate, the governor also directs teachers to uphold the dignity of the profession and avoid actions that harm it. She emphasizes holistic student development, including teachers’ punctual attendance and ensuring regular student attendance. The governor further stresses improving conditions in women’s hostels and ensuring they remain protected from anti-social influences. One report notes that while the directive has been discussed, the formal written order is awaited.
