A Colombian judge suspends a government pilot program intended to restart aerial spraying of coca in the country’s southern region. Reporting says the decision is issued by a circuit court in Puerto Asís, in the Putumayo department, which orders the suspension of the announced resumption of aerial fumigation.
According to the accounts, Colombia had been seeking to restart aerial eradication after a 2015 ban. One outlet says the court orders information to support “a sufficiently informed decision on the merits,” while another describes the suspension as temporarily grounding the pilot. Separately, both reports refer to an earlier move by national authorities: Colombia’s National Narcotics Council (CNE) instructs the National Police to restart aerial fumigation of coca.
