The Commission on Elections (Comelec) cancels the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) of Anwar Salipada Alamada, a candidate of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) for the Maguindanao del Sur 5th parliamentary district, for the Sept. 14 Bangsamoro parliamentary elections. Comelec announces the cancellation on Sunday, Sept. 13, following an earlier ruling.

Both outlets report that Comelec affirms the cancellation after handling Alamada’s challenge. In one account, Comelec states that its prior decision is final because the Supreme Court does not issue a restraining order or an injunctive writ. In the other, Comelec denies Alamada’s motion for reconsideration. The decision is issued a day before the scheduled start of the parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
