The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it will prosecute legal practitioners who it finds charging clients in foreign currencies. Acting Zonal Director of EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, issues the warning during a meeting in Lagos on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Kaltungo delivers the message while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Task Force on Illegal Practice of Law. The delegation is led by Moshood Abiola and is on a courtesy visit. EFCC officials say they have concerns about lawyers involved in what they describe as illegal and unethical practice.

While both outlets report the same EFCC warning and meeting details, they mainly differ in emphasis: one describes the planned prosecution more directly, while the other highlights the interaction with the NBA task force and Kaltungo’s statement that the commission will not hesitate to act against any culpable person.
