Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate software includes private code indicating that parts of Siri’s AI could be swapped with third-party models such as Claude or ChatGPT. The discovery, attributed to developer “pdfu,” is based on references in private frameworks and accompanying demonstrations shared online.
The code points to at least two approaches. One is “Model Delegation,” which allows a third-party model to appear as a Siri extension. In the demos, selecting Claude via an “Ask…” menu lets Siri handle actions it normally performs, while the external model interprets natural-language requests and returns results (for example, creating a reminder or generating a CSV file). Another approach described involves server-side replacement through “Model Manager Services,” where an inference provider can route Siri planner prompts and tool definitions to a different model, which then uses tool calls to perform system actions.
Outlets note the work aligns with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act and statements by the European Commission that effective access to Siri should extend to relevant functionality. MacRumors also says the visible “Ask…” option appears limited to the ChatGPT extension in macOS 27 Golden Gate release candidate at the time of reporting, while Apple has not yet opened model-delegation entitlements broadly.
