Former House Speaker and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez is transferred from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to the New Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas and is now in custody, according to officials.
The Sandiganbayan Third Division orders the transfer from PGH to the jail facility on Monday after testimony from PGH Director Gerardo Legaspi. Interior chief Jonvic Remulla had earlier said Romualdez was expected to arrive by “12 midnight,” after some reports suggested a deadline of 6 p.m. Multiple outlets report that he arrives later than the earlier expected time.
GMA News and Inquirer.net confirm that Romualdez comes from PGH and is received by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). Inquirer.net reports the BJMP convoy brings him to the jail at 10:49 p.m. after the transfer order, and that he undergoes standard booking procedures, including medical evaluation, fingerprinting, a mugshot, interview, and orientation.
While outlets differ on the timing expectations given earlier in the day, they agree that the custody transfer occurs following the Sandiganbayan order and that Romualdez is processed upon arrival at the Payatas jail.
