Andrew Scott will reprise his starring role in Simon Stephens’ one-man play “Sea Wall,” with a limited theatrical run in New York followed by a filmed feature adaptation. The production is scheduled at Studio Seaview for 19 performances from Oct. 16 to Oct. 30.
The play, written by Stephens, had previously been performed by Scott in London in 2008 at the Bush Theatre. It later moved to Broadway in 2019 with Scott’s co-star Tom Sturridge taking the sole role, according to one of the reports.
The outlets differ slightly in how they frame the “film” project. Deadline describes it not as a conventional stage-to-screen transfer, while Variety and The Hollywood Reporter focus on the limited run and the plan to capture the performance for a feature-length adaptation. All accounts agree the filmed capture is tied directly to the New York engagement.
