India’s National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is upgrading the 1033 national highway helpline, and says the service will be modernised with new technology. The enhancements are intended to improve how assistance is requested, located and delivered to road users across the national highways network.

According to reports, the upgraded system will use artificial intelligence (AI), real-time location tracking, and smart emergency-response features. NHAI describes the changes as a transformation of the existing helpline into a more responsive and technology-enabled service, focused on faster coordination during incidents on highways.

While the outlets describe the same core upgrade, they emphasize slightly different aspects of what the technology enables. Both refer to the same helpline number and the same broad set of tools—AI, location tracking and emergency-response support—without disputing the overall direction of the project.
