Kidnappers in Anambra State abandon a 16-year-old boy and flee after approaching a police security checkpoint in Onitsha. Police say the victim is found and rescued when the suspects leave him behind during their escape.

Authorities state the boy, named in reports as Favour Ayogu, was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and is later released near a checkpoint area. One account says the abductors drop him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road in Onitsha, after noticing increased police presence. Police spokespeople attribute the rescue to heightened or intensified joint security operations and officers becoming suspicious of the kidnappers’ movements, leading to pursuit and the suspects’ flight.

Police say they are now working to reunite the teenager with his family in Enugu State and have asked the public to provide information that could help trace relatives. The state commissioner of police and the spokesman both urge continued vigilance through intelligence-led patrols and checkpoints.
