Bengaluru authorities dismantle a suspected interstate counterfeit drug operation, with a healthcare firm owner arrested after fake medicines worth crores are seized, according to Karnataka officials. Karnataka Health Minister and other state sources say the medicines are allegedly manufactured or repackaged to appear as higher-end imports, using inexpensive bulk drugs.
A special investigation team (SIT) probes the network’s methods and possible links beyond Bengaluru, including whether the drugs were supplied through channels reaching medical facilities across the state. Mint reports that nearly ₹5 crore in drugs is seized and that more than 90 hospitals and clinics are under investigation, based on alleged supply records.
While outlets align on the arrest, seizure, and the SIT-led inquiry into interstate links and hospital/clinic involvement, they differ mainly on the reported value of the seized drugs and the emphasis on the repackaging angle versus the scale of healthcare facilities being investigated.
