Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says teenager Max Dowman will get opportunities to play, but he must earn them. The club’s stance comes as Dowman—who made Premier League history last season—continues to wait for more first-team minutes.
According to reports, Dowman has been an unused substitute on four occasions this season and is yet to be guaranteed a starting role. He remains part of Arsenal’s matchday plans, but Arteta says he will not simply be put in the team for the sake of his past milestone.
The outlets also note Dowman’s earlier achievement and current usage: the 16-year-old attacker made 13 appearances across all competitions last season and scored against Everton to become the youngest scorer in Premier League history. It is also reported that Arteta did not include Dowman on the bench for Arsenal’s 2–0 win over Sunderland, and that his involvement in the EFL Cup tie at Portman Road against Ipswich is not assured.
