Indian police say they will query Google over 513,847 Gmail IDs and passwords connected to an alleged bomb hoax. The probe follows an email bomb threat sent to the Gujarat government on Sep 10, days before the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
According to the reports, Gujarat police dismantle an email network they describe as sending inter-state bomb threats and arrest two people. The authorities’ findings cover account credentials reportedly used since 2022, and they link the material to how the threat communications were generated and distributed.
Outlets also note that Google is already facing related scrutiny. Business Line says authorities have previously identified patterns of criminals misusing Google tools—specifically Firebase—for financial scams. Against that broader backdrop, the current development centres on whether Google can help identify or trace the origin and operation of the fake Gmail accounts involved in the bomb-threat campaign.
