Ganeshotsav’s first major one-and-a-half-day visarjan phase is underway across Maharashtra’s Mumbai region, with civic bodies reporting large-scale but peaceful immersions. In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) says 61,528 Ganesh and Hartalika idols are immersed across designated points by about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, after processions tied to the festival’s one-and-a-half-day worship period. NDTV reports that by 9 p.m. on Tuesday in Mumbai, 12,463 household Ganesh idols, 23 Hartalika idols and 175 public mandal idols are immersed.
Across other cities, immersion also proceeds with scheduled safety and sanitation measures. In Kalyan-Dombivli, 16,666 idols are immersed by Tuesday night, with breakdown including shadu clay and plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, and extensive deployments such as medical teams, fire brigade resources, generators and CCTV monitoring. In Panvel, 7,629 household idols are immersed across 106 locations using natural ghats and artificial ponds under environmental initiatives. Bhiwandi reports 3,719 idols immersed in its first phase, while Palghar records one-and-a-half-day immersions amid police and municipal crowd-management at major points like the Palghar Ganesh Kund. Across reports, officials describe the process as orderly, with no untoward incidents reported in the monitored periods.
