Former Irewole Local Government caretaker chairman in Osun State, Babajide Jooda, files a N500 million fundamental rights suit against Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and former Force public relations officer Benjamin Hundeyin. Jooda says the police declared him wanted in February 2026 on the basis of a purportedly forged court order and that national newspaper advertorials attributed to Hundeyin publicize unlawful allegations including terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and culpable homicide.
The case is filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Jooda also names multiple other respondents, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Police Service Commission, Osun State’s commissioner of police, the Intelligence Response Team, and several judicial officers. He says he was previously arrested in connection with the murder of the reinstated Irewole LG chairman, Remi Abass, later released, and that multiple charges filed and withdrawn against him resulted in his name being struck out in later cases, yet he is still declared wanted.
Jooda describes the police action as politically motivated and seeks general and exemplary damages as well as a public apology and compensation. His lawyer argues the arrest warrant used in police bulletins is “forged and fake,” amounting to oppression and character assassination, while the outlets focus primarily on the claims and the pending court challenge rather than any judicial findings.
