Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, criticizes governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling them “politically lazy” after they reject his proposed “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike makes the remarks in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, addressing pushback led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. APC governors say they will not back any alliance they believe could weaken President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances or affect APC candidates across the country.
Wike responds by stating that his support for Tinubu does not mean he has left his party or opposed other parties fielding candidates. He argues that the disagreement does not start with his support for Tinubu, citing earlier resistance he faced during his time as Rivers State governor and later as FCT minister. The outlets also report that Wike frames his critics as lacking the political understanding needed to evaluate his proposals.
