Kalie McCrystal, a Canadian skyrunner and mountaineer from British Columbia, goes missing while training on the Matterhorn in Switzerland’s Alps on Sept. 1. More than two weeks later, her family says they believe she has died, after concluding that the search for her on the mountain has ended.

Global News, the Vancouver Sun and City News Toronto report that her family believes she likely fell while descending the nearly 4,500-metre peak. The Athletic (NYT) similarly reports that the family confirms the Matterhorn search is complete and that they believe she probably fell during the descent from the 4,478-metre mountain.

While the outlets broadly agree on the location, timing, and the family’s conclusion about a fall, they differ slightly in phrasing. City News Toronto uses a more personal description, saying McCrystal “remains among the mountains,” while others emphasize that the family believes she has perished and that the operation has wrapped up.
