Rajiv Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, is appointed Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, according to a Personnel Ministry order. Singh is a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre. He serves as DGP, Manipur since June 1, 2023, having taken charge after ethnic violence began in the state on May 3, 2023. Sources note that his appointment as Manipur’s police chief involved relaxing service conditions following the outbreak of violence after a “Tribal Solidarity March” in hill districts protesting the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribes status.
