The Union Cabinet approves raising the wage ceiling for mandatory Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) coverage to ₹25,000 per month. The change is expected to extend statutory coverage to more workers who were previously outside the EPFO ambit due to the prior wage limit.
According to a government statement cited by outlets, the move is expected to bring more than 51 lakh additional employees under mandatory EPFO coverage. The decision is framed as expanding social security for eligible employees by widening the group whose wages qualify for compulsory provident fund participation.
