Walmart is partnering with a nonprofit health insurer to offer co-branded Medicare Advantage plans. The plans are designed to be sold by Walmart, similar to how retail companies like Costco have entered the Medicare coverage market.

Quartz reports the co-branded plans will be available to more than 2 million Medicare enrollees in two states starting when open enrollment begins Oct. 15. MarketWatch adds that the arrangement is part of a broader partnership between Walmart and the nonprofit insurer.

The outlets focus on different angles: Quartz emphasizes the rollout timeline and the scale and geography of the planned availability, while MarketWatch highlights the retailer’s move into selling Medicare Advantage plans and compares it to other retailers already offering such coverage. Both describe a partnership model that aims to expand access to Medicare Advantage options through Walmart channels.
