Macro, the multi-platform entertainment company founded by Charles D. King, acquires the streaming distribution service Allblk from AMC Global Media. The deal brings Macro into direct-to-consumer streaming.
Allblk is aimed at Black audiences. The service originally launches in 2014 under the name UMC, short for Urban Movie Classics, created by businessman and BET founder Robert L. Johnson through RLJ Entertainment, which also previously owned other streaming assets such as Acorn TV. After its launch, UMC becomes Allblk as part of its broader evolution.
While both outlets report the same acquisition and ownership change, their emphasis differs slightly. Deadline provides additional background on the service’s origin and the corporate history behind it, linking the platform to Johnson and RLJ Entertainment. Variety focuses more on Macro’s strategic rationale, describing the transaction as an investment in a focused platform amid disruption and consolidation in the media industry. Both accounts frame the acquisition as a step for Macro to expand its streaming footprint.
