Japan’s Team Japan is reviewing alternate accommodation options for the 2026 Asian Games as organizers at the Aichi–Nagoya host region face housing constraints. The host is not building a dedicated Athletes’ Village, and instead is considering options such as a chartered cruise ship and shipping-container style huts.
The problem is tied to expectations and logistics ahead of the Games. Organizers initially plan for roughly 15,000 athletes and officials, but the expected numbers rise as additional sports are added. Some teams, including Japan, also confront room-allocation issues reported during the lead-up, including cases where male and female athletes were assigned shared rooms.
