Vivek Agnihotri criticises a news portal for describing actor and producer Pallavi Joshi primarily as “the wife of” filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri after her appointment to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He calls the caption “deeply misogynistic” and says it reduces her decades of work to her relationship status.
In posts on X, Agnihotri argues that Joshi has built her own professional identity over four decades, pointing to her acting career and National Award wins. He also disputes the framing used in the portal’s coverage, arguing that Joshi’s achievements should be presented on their own terms rather than through her husband’s name. Times of India similarly reports Agnihotri’s stance and characterizes the criticism as misogynistic.
Both outlets situate the dispute within the broader context of a reconstituted CBFC board. They note that, alongside Joshi, several other celebrities are appointed as members, including Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi and Suniel Shetty, with Free Press Journal listing additional appointees as well.
