The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has reopened the verification of disputed and newly drilled oil and gas wells, replacing a previously issued report. The move follows complaints from states about how an earlier verification exercise is used to determine derivation revenue.

According to reporting from multiple outlets, the RMAFC discards the old report and orders a fresh process that includes updated coordinates and maps, along with field inspections. This is intended to address ongoing disagreements linked to derivation sharing, with one outlet citing disputes involving about 13% derivation.

Outlets broadly agree on the core steps—reopening verification, dumping the earlier report, and conducting renewed checks—but differ mainly in how they frame the trigger. Both The Punch and Vanguard attribute the decision to states’ claims and counterclaims over the accuracy or fairness of the prior exercise. The RMAFC’s action is presented as a corrective measure to re-establish the factual basis for derivation allocations.
