The Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) is pulling up Indian Railways over deficiencies in passenger amenities at stations, citing what it describes as “serious discrepancies.” Business Line reports that hundreds of stations lack basic provisions such as drinking water, functional ATM counters, and toilet facilities for persons with disabilities.
The Hindu adds that a CAG report finds extensive gaps in station sanitation: around 96% of stations surveyed have deficient bio-toilets. The PAC also notes that Railways has ignored earlier observations dating back to 2007, despite promises to address the issues. It directs the Railway Ministry to submit its response within a month.
