A Singaporean climber, Lau Wee Seng, dies on Mount Manaslu in Nepal during an expedition. He is reported to have felt unwell while descending from Camp II at an altitude of about 6,000 metres following an acclimatisation rotation, and he dies the morning after. Expedition organisers say arrangements are being made to airlift his body.
Mount Manaslu is the world’s eighth-highest peak. The South China Morning Post describes the death as the first foreign casualty of the current climbing season. Lau is said to have arrived in Samagaun on September 7 as part of a team attempting to climb the mountain, with reporting citing information attributed to organisers and local coverage.
