Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón is set to make his first visit to Korea for the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which runs from Oct. 6 to 15 in Busan. The two-time Academy Award–winning filmmaker is scheduled to appear on the opening ceremony red carpet, host a masterclass, and take part in a special Q&A after an IMAX screening of his 2013 space thriller, “Gravity.”
BIFF is also organizing additional programming beyond Cuarón’s participation. Variety reports that the festival includes a spotlight featuring nine films by European women and genderqueer filmmakers. The Korea Times emphasizes Cuarón’s career landmarks and his signature approach to filmmaking, including earlier acclaimed work such as “Y Tu Mamá También,” as well as later directing credits including “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “Children of Men,” reflecting the festival’s focus on both his current appearances and his broader influence on global cinema.
