India’s Supreme Court backs the Madhya Pradesh government’s decision to transfer the death case of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Following the directive, the CBI takes over the investigation and sends a team to Bhopal to begin probe activities, including questioning the key accused. Multiple reports say the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI inquiry in the case, which has been described by the family as a “dowry death,” with allegations that Twisha was pushed to death by her in-laws.
According to the reports, Bhopal police re-register an FIR as part of the process after the CBI takeover. The CBI is expected to verify claims related to the circumstances leading to Twisha’s death and examine alleged communications after the death. One recurring allegation involves calls made by Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law, former judge Giribala Singh, to judges and others, which the family says should be independently investigated.
Separately, the Supreme Court orders both families to refrain from media interviews. In Bhopal, a court sends Singh and her son Samarth Singh to CBI custody for five days, while anticipatory bail issues are pending before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
