ADC and NDC both withdraw from Saturday’s bye-election for the Kano State House of Assembly seat representing Dawakin Kudu. The election is scheduled for September 19, 2026.
According to reports, the decision means the race will proceed with six candidates from six different political parties, based on the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Across the outlets, INEC also reassures that election arrangements are in place and urges parties and voters to follow electoral laws and maintain peace.
The parties give different reasons for opting out. ADC says it is facing an internal leadership crisis, with a dispute over control of the party currently before the courts, and notes that divisions within the party also affect decisions for future contests such as the 2027 governorship election. NDC says it is withdrawing on strategic grounds, citing consultations with party leadership and choosing to conserve resources while focusing on broader plans for the 2027 general elections.
