Alibaba’s research arm, DAMO Academy, open-sources an AI model, “Damo Radar,” designed to identify cancer and a broad range of abdominal conditions from contrast-enhanced CT scans. The model analyses images covering 18 abdominal organs and is reported to be able to detect nearly 150 conditions and other abnormalities, including malignant disease.

The outlets describe the model as a vision-language system intended to support medical diagnosis by flagging findings that may otherwise be missed. NDTV says the system is tested on about 40,000 scans and that, compared with prior performance, it reduces missed diagnoses by around 10% and shortens diagnostic time by about 30%.
