Upstate New York has emerged as a leading candidate location. The discussions aim to reduce Solidigm’s reliance on its NAND production in China.
The reports describe the effort as still in the early stage. No agreement is reached, and key details—including the investment level, production capacity, and construction timeline—remain undecided. Solidigm is said to regularly evaluate options to improve long-term competitiveness, while SK Hynix indicates it is reviewing possibilities without committing to the project.
AppleInsider adds that this proposed U.S. facility is separate from SK Hynix’s other discussions about producing memory chips at Intel’s planned facility in Ohio.
