Poland joins a European coalition focused on developing joint ballistic missile defence capabilities with Ukraine and other European partners, according to announcements by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The initiative is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air and missile defences against Russian attacks, while also exploring an alternative and more affordable missile defence approach.
The announcements are made during the context of broader regional security cooperation efforts, including the first Carpathian Summit. The Kyiv Post reports the coalition includes Ukraine and nine other European states. It also says Tusk frames Poland’s earlier absence from an initial July launch in Paris as a misunderstanding, adding that Polish defence contractors are reviewing how they can contribute industrially.
