Benue State Police Command says it rescues eight passengers abducted along the Ankpenchi–Ogobia axis of Ohimini Local Government Area following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu made the disclosure during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Makurdi.

Police say the kidnapping involved 13 passengers from a commercial bus intercepted around 11pm on September 13 on the route. They say the rescuers, acting on intelligence and search-and-rescue efforts, storm the kidnappers’ camp in the Amla Forest area in early hours of September 18, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Eight of the remaining victims are rescued and are receiving medical attention.

Across the reports, the accounts agree on the location (Ankpenchi–Ogobia axis in Ohimini LGA), the number rescued (eight), and that the operation includes an armed confrontation. One source adds that one victim died from fatal injuries and that efforts continue to arrest fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate.
