African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar says President Bola Tinubu may provide short-term relief over the recent increase in petrol pump prices. Atiku links the possible move to a planned demonstration by Lagos State transporters and made the remarks at a world press conference on Friday.
According to Atiku, any subsidy relief could be temporary, with the expectation that the policy would likely revert after the 2027 elections if Tinubu wins a second term. He also notes that he has previously pledged to restore fuel subsidy if elected.
The reports both state that Tinubu ended the fuel subsidy regime at his inauguration in May 2023, after which pump prices have continued to rise.
