A man in eastern China files a lawsuit against an AI company after he says he acted on a chatbot’s recommendation for his mother’s burial date and later linked the outcome to family misfortune. The reports describe that Shi, from Jiashan county in Zhejiang province, consulted the chatbot to choose an “auspicious” date for his mother’s burial following her death in April.
According to the accounts, Shi says the advice was based on traditional almanac-style calculations and beliefs about celestial movements. He argues that the chatbot’s guidance was misleading and contributed to a disaster that affected his family after the burial. NDTV adds that Shi regularly used AI tools for other administrative tasks, including organising work contracts.
Both outlets frame the case as a dispute over the reliability of AI-generated advice used in a culturally sensitive context.
