Nigeria’s minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins in four of five recent legislative bye-elections across three geopolitical regions are significant ahead of the 2027 general elections. He makes the assessment in a social media statement reacting to weekend results.
Keyamo’s comments focus on both the APC’s performance and what he calls the constitutional voting requirement for presidential candidates. He references the rule that a winner must secure at least 25% of the votes in two-thirds of states plus the Federal Capital Territory, describing it as reflecting Nigeria’s diversity. He says further analysis will follow later ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Across outlets, the reporting agrees on the number of bye-elections won by APC and the broad regional spread: Kano (North-West); Bauchi and Gombe (North-East); and Delta (South-South). They also agree that the APC loses one seat—Sakwa State Constituency in Bauchi—to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
