The United Kingdom updates its Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) rules for overseas-trained teachers applying in England, removing Nigeria, Ghana and India from the countries eligible to use a direct application service.
According to reports, the change applies to the UK’s 2026 QTS pathway. Vanguard and Legit.ng say the UK’s revision follows a review of the direct application process, citing difficulties in verifying overseas teacher credentials and supporting documentation such as references.
While both outlets focus on the same removal of the three countries, they describe it as a result of verification challenges rather than a change in teacher performance or training standards.
