The U.S. Department of Defense releases a second batch of previously classified documents related to alleged UFO sightings. The material falls under the government’s term “unidentified anomalous phenomena” and is made public following an order by President Donald Trump. The first batch was released on May 8, and Friday’s release continues the ongoing pattern of presidential declassification of such records, a practice that dates back to the late 1970s.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the documents include records, photos and videos that have long contributed to public speculation about unexplained aerial events. According to the Defense Department, the second release includes 222 files. One file in the batch contains 116 pages focused on reported sightings and investigations at a top-secret facility in Sandia, New Mexico, covering 1948 to 1950. The department says the file describes 209 sightings of “green orbs,” discs and fireballs reported near the military base.
