South Korea’s box office sees a new local entry at the top of weekend ticket sales. The comedy-drama remake “The Intern” opens at No. 1 in weekend admissions for Sept. 18–20, according to Korean Film Council (KOFIC) weekend tracking data. The film lands with 275,186 admissions over the weekend and 403,906 total admissions as of Sunday, driven by its story of an entrepreneur and an elderly intern.
While “The Intern” leads in ticket admissions, Christopher Nolan’s epic “The Odyssey” continues to hold the edge in overall weekend revenue, despite being the prior chart leader. Outlets report that “The Odyssey” draws 256,793 admissions over the weekend, reaching 11.2 million total admissions. Both stories also note strong performances from other Hollywood releases, including the horror film “Obsession,” which adds 131,467 admissions over the same weekend. Across coverage, the main difference is how each outlet frames the top outcome—either admissions leadership (“The Intern”) or revenue leadership (“The Odyssey”).
