A UN children’s agency report says about 1.5 million children in Pakistan experience online sexual abuse within a year. The accounts include teenagers who are contacted by strangers or groomed through ordinary online activity, such as chatting and gaming, before being pressured for sexual images or threats are made.
The reporting centers on a Pakistani teenager, identified by a changed name for safety, who says she was approached while playing an online game. She describes a conversation that began as friendly, followed by requests for nudes and threats after she refused. UNICEF’s lead author says abuse often starts with trust-building and may involve offers of gifts, money or romance. Both outlets also cite that most perpetrators are known to the victims and that many cases involve children aged 12 to 17.
While both sources rely on the same UNICEF findings and similar victim testimony, they differ mainly in wording and framing typical of each publication rather than on new facts or differing conclusions.
