Indian filmmaker Theja Rio’s debut feature “Angh” wins the top prize in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Platform section. Multiple outlets report that the Platform Award includes automatic eligibility for the Oscars’ international feature film race, giving “Angh” a direct spot in the 2027 Oscars competition.

Reports also note that “Angh” is the only Indian title selected for TIFF’s Platform section this year. While “Angh” has secured Oscars race eligibility, outlets specify that India’s official Oscar submission is different, naming “Gondhal” as India’s representative entry rather than “Angh.”
