The Bank of Korea (BOK) launches a pilot program for a 24-hour offshore won settlement network aimed at foreign investors. The trial begins at 9 a.m. Monday and allows won transactions to be settled during business hours in investors’ home countries, using accounts they hold abroad.

The BOK says the system, called the BOK Won International Wire Network, is being trialed with four South Korean banks: Kookmin, Woori, Hana and Shinhan. The network runs 24 hours from 9 a.m. each business day to 9 a.m. the following day, and it stops operations on weekends and public holidays. Full implementation is scheduled for January, with overseas banks expected to join after the official launch.

Cointelegraph and the Korea Times both describe the initiative as part of Korea’s broader efforts to reduce barriers for foreign investors. While Cointelegraph emphasizes the 24-hour settlement capability for foreign investors, the Korea Times provides additional operational details about participating banks and the timeline toward full rollout.
