Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), says that if elected in 2027, his administration will restore the fuel subsidy removed under President Bola Tinubu. He makes the pledge in a post on his official X account on Monday.
Sowore also links the subsidy proposal to a broader economic plan. Sources report that he says his government would implement a minimum wage of N500,000 per month for Nigerian workers. Other outlets note the ongoing national debate over whether fuel subsidy should be brought back, and they describe how different presidential candidates position themselves on the issue.
According to the reports, Atiku Abubakar has promised to restore a form of subsidy, including one targeted at domestic refiners. In contrast, other candidates—including Peter Obi (NDC) and Seyi Makinde (APM)—are said to oppose returning to the previous full subsidy framework. Makinde instead proposes measures such as cheaper domestic crude pricing for Nigerian refineries.
