Former Jigawa State governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) founding member Alhaji Sule Lamido says Nigerian youths are being increasingly used by politicians as “political machinery” and labourers. Speaking in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Sunday, he says leaders have failed to provide mentorship and character formation for young people.
Lamido says he chooses to meet with youths rather than hold a gathering with political elites because of his concern for younger Nigerians’ future. He argues that exposure to politics has increasingly involved thuggery, hatred, abuse and disrespect, and that some politicians mobilise young people around individuals rather than political principles.
Across the outlets, the central focus remains Lamido’s warning about how youth are recruited and treated in politics, and his call for improved intellectual, moral and leadership development. He urges youths across party lines—including the PDP, All Progressives Congress (APC) and ADC—not to see one another as enemies, saying shared generational interests outweigh partisan divisions.
