A row breaks out after a large memorial is placed near an existing giant headstone in a cemetery. The new monument is reported to weigh about 30 tonnes and stands only metres away from a similar shrine.
According to reports, the memorials are dedicated to Michael Collins, described in one account as a “Traveller King,” and to his brother. One outlet says the new memorial is a nine-foot-high stone headstone marking Michael Collins’ grave, positioned close to a roughly 37-ton, £200,000 marble headstone commemorating his brother. Another report adds that the two memorials sit just metres apart, describing the pair of shrines as appearing side by side.
While both sources describe the same location and the proximity of the two heavy monuments, they differ mainly in emphasis: one focuses on the weight and the “gaudy” appearance of the new memorial, while the other provides more detail about dimensions and the reported cost and materials of the brother’s headstone.
