AI glasses shipments rise sharply in the first half of 2026, growing 263% year-over-year, according to Counterpoint Research. The market is dominated by “display-less” models, which account for the vast majority of shipments and are associated with privacy concerns linked to wearable cameras.
Counterpoint data show that display-less shipments increase 258% versus the first half of 2025 and 22% versus the preceding six months. Meta leads the display-less segment, accounting for about 94% of total AI glasses shipments, with its volume up 260% year-over-year and 22% sequentially. Meta’s growth is attributed to factors including new frame styles and wider retail availability.
Outlet coverage also highlights timing and product focus differences for Apple. MacRumors reports that Apple’s first smart glasses are expected to omit a visible AR display, instead emphasizing audio, cameras, Siri, and iPhone connectivity. It adds that Apple is targeting a late-2027 release, potentially announced around WWDC 2027, with an emphasis on privacy. Broader expectations include continued investment from major tech firms as the category evolves.
