India’s government amends the Legal Metrology Rules to require certain everyday toiletries to display mandatory symbols indicating whether they are vegetarian or non-vegetarian in origin. The changes apply to products such as soaps, shampoos, toothpaste and other toiletries sold in India.
Under the updated labeling approach, a green symbol indicates a vegetarian product, while a red or brown symbol marks a non-vegetarian product. The objective is to help consumers quickly identify the category of the product based on its labeling.
Both outlets report the same core change: the introduction of standardized, color-coded markings on toiletries to communicate vegetarian versus non-vegetarian status. Differences are limited to how each outlet describes the visuals (green versus red or brown) and the framing of “everyday” consumer use, rather than the substance of the requirement itself.
