A Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) official testifying in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial says government offices in the Davao Region awarded 49 food service contracts to a corporation linked to Duterte.
Rendell Sopeña, chief of the PhilGEPS Electronic Government Procurement Operations Division, says the information came from searching the procurement database using the merchant name “Gencorp Industries Inc.” He testified that the search showed 49 contracts awarded to the same firm. The reports describe the disclosure as part of the trial proceedings.
In terms of differing angles, both accounts attribute the figure of 49 contracts to the same PhilGEPS witness and the same database search. They differ mainly in wording, with one framing it as “food services” contracts and the other as “food service” contracts, but both refer to contracts awarded by offices in the Davao Region.
