Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says all his children supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, in the 2023 election. He makes the statement during an interview on TVC News on Monday.
Wike links his children’s support to the political controversy around the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim–Muslim presidential ticket during the 2023 campaign. He argues that messaging about Christianity influenced the election, and says that situation has since changed, adding that the Tinubu administration addressed concerns related to the same-faith ticket. He also says that some supporters later reconsidered their views, while emphasizing that his children’s stance reflected the election-time environment.
In addition, Wike says he does not believe Obi can win the 2027 presidential election. Nigerian Eye and Daily Post Nigeria both report the same core claims, with both attributing the remarks to Wike’s TVC News appearance.
