Arise Television morning show presenter Rufai Oseni argues that President Bola Tinubu is within his rights to run Nigeria remotely from abroad, including from France. Speaking on Tuesday while discussing Tinubu’s continued absence from Nigeria and frequent overseas trips, Oseni says voters effectively accepted that pattern when they elected the administration.
In his comments, Oseni highlights what he describes as an established routine of extended time outside the country, including an initial-year trip lasting more than 20 days and a current trip expected to last around 27 days. He also questions whether costly foreign engagements deliver concrete benefits to Nigeria, saying he is interested in actual investments brought to the country rather than announcements or memoranda.
On a separate point, Oseni criticises Tinubu’s decision to remain abroad despite the reported deaths of 37 suspected miners in Niger State custody, suggesting the president should have returned at least to show leadership during the response. While he raises concerns, his overall position is that if Tinubu chooses to direct affairs from overseas, it aligns with what Oseni says Nigerians voted for.
